Flight Story

The sun was beginning to descend beyond the heights of the Weyrbowl, casting jagged orange and red shadows across the deepening gold of the rocks and turning the grass a shimmering bronze in hue, when the Frenzy dragons began to show more activity than usual. The males positioned themselves on ledges and displaced slabs of rock from the ongoing construction, watching the females with a heightened intensity. Meanwhile the females basked more intently, taking great care as to how they positioned their wings and tails and limbs to maximize the amount of stares they acquired.

Ch'vi watched with a growing feeling of dread. While the Nidus Corona people had been very strangely selective in their participants, they had somehow been cajolled into including Haeth in their sample. He was not quite sure which decision would have been worse, but now he was involved.

Don't be so grumpy mine. You know you always enjoy the end result, even if I give you a bit of a headache getting there. The large brown responded, Besides, Akyoth says I need the exercise.

"Since when do you listen to Akyoth?" Ch'vi asked, sitting on the ledge of his little cavelet where he could keep an eye on his bond.

When her desires coincide with mine. Haeth responded with a bit of a smirk, Besides, your mate seems excited. She's preening, Sjirith says.

Ch'vi reddened. "Oh."

Anyway, enough chitchat, I have females to impress. The brown said firmly, turning his full attention to the females.

The females had very different responses depending on their personalities. Poor white-pointed sunset Nietith looked like she wanted to disappear, even though she blushed at his bulky bond's attempts at flattery. An'tur Dazony seemed to be wondering what she was doing there, as some of these males seemed to be less than reputable, especially with the way they were flirting with more than one female at once! The vibrantly pink Chyririnth seemed to be having just as much fun flirting as Haeth, if not more, which baffled Ch'vi. Gold with bronze Kaieth mantled at any male who came too close to her, fanning her wings to keep them at bay. Little rainbow green Kaivith seemed confused by the males, tempted by both the attractive and the needy. Slightly larger night gold Plelmyath was snapping back at something one of the blues (Beluith) had said in an effort to catch her attention, though he sure seemed to regret it now.

Shimmer brown Nemeriath was lounging next to her winged wolf bond, who insisted on being in the thick of the action with her. Her distinct hide definitely caught some eyes. Meanwhile Maohsth was right up in blue-spotted Baeroneth's face, no doubt correcting him on something. Green Meereth was being arrogant, as usual, though luckily the males' puffed up egos protected them from her lashing tongue. Airodanth and Axumath seemed content with each other's company for now, pointedly ignoring the males.

Cream Cimoath seemed to be wondering what she was doing there, while cream Nycoith seemed to be having a great time talking and completely ignoring the main reason for their gathering. Red and grey Citiath also sat on the edges, completely expressionless and moderately unresponsive to the males' approaches. Aptly-named Golden seemed intimidated by the attention of most of the larger males who had been chased off by Kaieth, though they sometimes made her laugh nervously. Boistrous and bright Chizh'Jach was right in the middle of the group of males, loudly commanding most of their attention and getting quite a bit of it.

Green Serylth had opted for watching the group from the outskirts, sometimes going so far as to run from interested males. Raw Amethyst Arianoth was patiently waiting the start of the flight, not too concerned with the pre-flight informalities. Caneo'Mybl was obviously contemplating roasting Grouith on the spot. Meanwhile, Alskyran-born gold Hsaopinth was constantly staring up at the ledge where her dragon bond was watching for encouragement. And the last female, black Flloi'Gwmi, did not seem to care much at all.

The males were just as diverse. Blue-granite Grouith seemed to have decided Caneo'Mybl was a lost cause and was now chasing Serylth around the outskirts, determined to make one of the females his. Blue-dawn Menneth was in the middle with Chizh'Jach, sometimes appearing to compete with her in volume. Big bronze Leitneth was attempting to coax a now shaking Golden to calm down, with Argaeth playing backup. Reedoeth seemed about to have a fit, glancing up at the cavelets just as often as Hsaopinth for a sign of his bonded, though he was obviously very enthralled by the glowing females.

Qekoth, on the other hand, seemed content to wait until the flight began before making his move, as was traditional. White-black mutt Ghost was amiably chatting with Nycoith, enjoying the social side for the time being. Black-ruby Thahaeth was, naturally, attracted to the shiniest female in the group, staring unabashedly at Nemeriath, though her attention had gravitated towards raw ruby Savitath.

Star-marked Ringeth and Dlivereth seemed ready to leap into the air, anxious for the flight to start. Meanwhile fiery ash brown Taisemth was pacing back and forth, glancing up at the sky then back at the females. Danachian Kelrituruth was by far the oddest there, earning many stares as he too kept the outskirts and fidgetted with restlessness.

Green-purple Gucaotith was grinning from ear to ear, happily twitching his tail to a beat no one else could hear, as he waited patiently for one of the females to make a move. Stratius was parked right next to Golden, though he did not deem it his responsibility to chase off the bronzes that were making her so anxious, though he did mantle absently a couple times. Chiuzh'Jach was off... He's picking flowers. While Chuah'Kyil was smiling shyly at whichever female chose to watch him. Blue Beluith seemed to want more attention than he was getting, but was too shy to go get it. And lastly, bright orange Mucez'Actl was leading the more social dragons in a song that must have been designed to make decent people blush.

Ch'vi shifted on the ledge, "Are you guys just going to sit there all day?" He muttered, his behind quite sore already.

Think of being numb as a way to increase your- Haeth began, then broke off abruptly.

Ch'vi glanced up to see little Hsaopinth leaping onto a herdbeast in an obvious "well I had better get this over and done with" fashion. The other females followed quickly, blooding as tradition and good sense demanded. Then the males joined in, though they were not given the chance to devour more than two carcases before Golden leaped into the air, apparently eager to get away from the males.

Ch'vi found his mind being carried into his bond's. Damnit Haeth, you know I prefer to have my OWN body! He exclaimed.

But this is much more fun. His bond responded, holding him tight, And Sjirith told me to! She says her bond likes-

Okay okay okay. Ch'vi responded frantically, making the dragon chuckle.

The dragons rose into the air in almost what seemed to be a clump. Many males made a move in the tight quarters, though most missed and ended up having to regain the height they had lost. The females struggled to spread out as much as possible as quickly as possible.

Haeth made a move for the closest female, who happened to be Caneo'Mybl. EW. GET OFF ME YOU OLD FART! She screeched, dropping out of his grasp.

I am not an old fart! He shouted back, affronted, and hovered in confusion before chasing the nearest tail.

Golden still found herself plagued by both bronzes, despite various loop de loops and crossovers with other females. Kaieth seemed confused by this turn of events and was following the bronzes. Meanwhile green-gold-purple Axumath was being pursued by green-purple Gucaotith, which both amused and perplexed her. Greens Maohsth, Meereth, Serylth and Airodanth were being chased by blues Dlivereth, Baeroneth, Qekoth and Reedoeth. Meanwhile Nemeriath was entertaining Thahaeth, while Chyririnth was narrowly staying out of Ghost's grasp. The Geperna seemed content to chase each other, or attempt to escape each other in the case of Caneo'Mybl. Kelrituruth left a vast expanse of sky empty behind him as he chased tiny Kuivith, who was flapping her wings frantically to stay from the many winged rainbow behemoth.

Haeth found himself chasing Hsaopinth, though he did so lazily. It's her first frenzy. I want to be polite and let her stretch her wings. He explained to his bond.

First to fall was An'tur Dazony, who was gently scooped up by raw ruby Savitath. Shortly afterwards, blue Qekoth grabbed a hold of Meereth, who never quite managed to shake him off.

Meanwhile the creams flew side by side, trailed by their chasers. Cimoath seemed anxious, while Nycoith was having a blast. The latter banked quickly, barely missing the boys and causing Beluith to barrel into the other female. Taking advantage of the situation seemed to soothe both their nerves.

Blue-granite Grouith had found yet another object of his affections in the form of night gold Plelmyath, who did not seem tempted to stop any time soon. Nietith and Airanoth were flying together, the former trying to hide under the latter, as they crossed over red-gray Citiath. Nietith found herself squished between the raw amethyst and the red-gray's chasers, which ended in blue-dawn Mennath making a slight turn to claim her as his and crooned happily.

With a loud affronted squeak, cream Nycoith realized that her tail was in the grasp of brown Ringeth and that he was not going to let go. He doggedly pulled his way up her body and tried to cheer her up when she started to pout.

Unfortunately named Mucez'Actl was circling the group of Geperna when he finally saw his chance. With a smirk, he plucked equally bright Chizh'Jach out of the air. Only if you'll sing to me! She told him with a big grin.

Nemeriath crossed paths with Chyririnth and ended up flying straight into Ghost, which the mutt did not seem to mind one bit. The pink female stopped in surprise, hovering to stare at her suitor that had so easily left her, only to be swept up by Thahaeth who was NOT about to finish second to anyone!

Reedeoth made his move for Maohsth and ended up with Airodanth instead, which was just fine by her. Meanwhile Plelmyath made a beeline for Arianoth, losing Grouith to the shinier female who seemed quite happy to take him. The night gold came close to Haeth, who considered chasing her and quickly reconsidered when she sent him a series of scathing glares and angry sounds.

Citiath made the mistake of spinning in a tight spiral downward, which allowed Taisemth to dive straight down and claim her. And finally Gucaotith caught Axumath, who decided he was not that ugly after all.

Golden was so set on avoiding the bronzes that had been following her all flight that she did not even notice her pack member Stratius sidling up beside her... and then on top of her.. and well, she was just happy it was someone she knew!

Discouraged, bronze Argaeth turned away from Golden only to collide with Plelmyath. Thinking quickly, he grabbed the tiny gold, earning several insults which he quieted by placing his large maw around hers. Enough of that, sweetling, words aren't going to knock me off. He said firmly.

Kaieth also took advantage of Golden being out of the competition by literally jumping on Leitneth. You've proven yourself enough. I would've preferred if you'd been chasing ME though. She pointed out grumpily.

Kelrituruth sighed as he flew along behind Kaivith, As much as I like the view from up here, I think I win. He said lightly, flapping his wings twice to cover the distance, and her.

Maohsth was panting with exertion, doing her best to stay ahead of Baeroneth. This seems a little silly. He told her, reaching for and missing her tail again, I mean even the golds have been caught by now.

Oh? They have? She answered, looking around all surprised, Well in that case!

Star-marked blue Dlivereth caught green Serylth as her wings began to falter, Don't you worry, I have you. He crooned soothingly.

Chuah'Kyil finally gave up on approaching the easily offended bronze Geperna and turned his attentions to Flloi'Gwmi. So, what do you say? He asked, earning a shrug and a pair of spread wings.

That left just the two brown males and their females in the sky.

What do you say, Hsaopinth? Haeth called to the Alskyran gold, Ready for part two?

The little gold blushed, Alright. She said after a pause.

So are you going to catch me or what? Caneo'Mybl demanded of Chiuzh'Jach, who stammered a little before doing as she suggested.

---

Ch'vi found himself back in his body in the arms of his weyrmate, "I love frenzies." He murmured against her lips.

She laughed and pulled him to his feet, "Come on you old fart, I haven't waited around all flight for nothing!" She smirked.
